It looks like half of America’s favorite morning couple is saying “Sayonara” to Live With Kelly & Michael! Yep, former football star turned television host, Michael Strahan is moving up in the world and on to Good Morning America (GMA)! As you already know, Strahan has been appearing on the show a couple of days each week. Apparently, the folks over at GMA like him so much that they have offered him a full time gig, which he has happily accepted.
His addition marks an attempt by the producers of GMA to regain the coveted viewership/demography of 18-24 year olds. Currently, they are down with this group of viewers by 18% and down in viewership on by 10% on a year to year date. Not good for a morning show, and surprising for a show as popular as GMA.
We are definitely going to miss seeing Michael and Kelly Ripa together in the mornings. He has definitely won the hearts of millions over the years and the chemistry between he and his co-host is even more dynamic than the days of Regis & Kathy Lee. ABC News president, James Goldston said, “Michael has been a stellar addition to the broadcast. Over the past two years on ‘GMA,’ he’s proven to be a tireless and versatile broadcaster with an incredible ability to connect with people, from veterans to American pop culture icons and newsmakers.”
Congratulations from all of us here at Hey Mikey ATL, Michael, we will be sure to tune in now that you’re on board. There is no news on who Kelly’s new co-host will be, but we will keep you posted!
