Designed between Alexander Wang’s departure and Demna Gvasalia’s first runway show. Luxury brand Balenciaga unveils their 2016 pre-fall collection. Filled with boxy silhouettes, new redefined detailed threads, and high collars, the 2016 pre-fall collection from Balenciaga is presumably produced by the brands internal team. According to a press release, “The pieces were designed during the awkward transitional period between the departure of Alexander Wang and the first runway show by Demna Gvasalia.” However, Vetements-inspired aesthetics are just barely discernible in the looks. Who knows whether the team was anticipating the new incoming creative director or the inspiration was genuinely subconscious, the incorporation of a hoodie alongside elongated sleeves and innovative floral graphics seems to prompt the resemblance. Other standout pieces in the collection include an oversized aviator jacket with a flipped and branded shearling collar (which can also be seen in Balenciaga’s latest eyewear campaign) and jaw-dropping metallic thigh-high stiletto boots. Whether or not the new collection was truly without direction from the Georgian designer, the new pieces remain to be a noteworthy teaser for Demna Gvasalia’s highly anticipated first collection. This preview fall collection is legit from head to toe with new designs and an overall fresh look on the fall season to come. You can check out the full collection gallery via Vogue.com.
