THE QUEEN IS BACK; The queen of being effortlessly chic that is! Daisy Lewellyn is back with the new season of Blood, Sweat, and Heels . Recently Kontrol Magazine had the opportunity to talk with Daisy about the show and her life. Many people are not aware that before she started the show she spent the last fifteen years in the fashion industry. She is best known for her makeovers and teaching women how to “dress like a rich girl, on a real girl budget,” “indulge in champagne taste on a sparkling water budget,” pay less for Prada, shop with an editor’s eye, and so much more.
WHAT MADE YOU DO REALITY TV?
“The production company approached me and they were looking for someone in fashion and someone who was well established. They liked what I had done and they were familiar with my makeovers and such. And so I thought absolutely! And it’s crazy people ask me this question all the time. And a lot of people are thinking were you scared? Did you think there would be a lot of fights? Did you think they were not going to portray you the way that you were? But was a little hesitant in the beginning is because all you ever hear about reality TV is editing, editing, editing. I’m not afraid of cameras and cameras don’t make me feel uncomfortable. To be honest I will forget that the cameras are even there. I’m not one who feels that I have to act differently or be different because I am always on camera. I BELONG IN TELEVISION! But it was a little different because I’m use to daytime television but I thought it would be good exposure for my book and just be fun. And it’d be a great way to have my life documented.
MANY REALITY STARS BLAME EDITING FOR HOW THEY WERE PORTRAYED. DO YOU FEEL THE SHOW PORTRAYS WHO YOU REALLY ARE?
“That is the million-dollar question. There was editing, and editing, and MORE editing; but I was very pleased [with] how I was portrayed on season one. We recorded hours and hours of footage and they can only show so much. But I wasn’t edited in any way really. You get to see me the crazy Daisy, the Jesus Daisy, and every other Daisy!”
PRIOR TO THE SHOW DID YOU KNOW ALL OF THE WOMEN?
“I knew all of them before, except for Melyssa Ford. New York is a small town and everyone knows everyone–especially in the Black circle.”
WHAT’S YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH EACH OF THE OTHER WOMEN NOW?
With the other women some relationships are growing stronger and then some are on a roller coaster effect. I am best friends with Mica. That is ‘my sister from another mister.’ We will break out into a dance contest out of nowhere. When we tape together we usually go over taping because we are having such a great time. This season we have Chantelle Fraser and she is a lot of fun and has a body like the Fourth of July!”
WHO DO YOU BUTT HEADS WITH THIS SEASON?
“If you watched season one you can probably take a guess at who I butt heads with. Lets just say Demetria and me sit down and have a few conversations about each other’s perspective.”
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH DAISY’S LOVE LIFE?
“Why do you have someone you trying to introduce me to? Who is he? What’s is name? But in season one you saw that I was with Jesus well I still am. Jesus is still my husband and He hasn’t let me down yet. He just hasn’t introduced me to my Mr. Right.”
HAS DOING REALITY TV OPENED MORE DOORS FOR YOU?
“Reality television has for one opened a huge door for me by exposing me to 2.6 million more viewers. Blood, Sweat, and Heels is a sensation and we broke Bravo records. We even surpassed the Real Housewives of Atlanta, which we all love. We broke Bravo records in terms of a debut, and it has opened a lot of doors it just depends on how you look at it. Our show is a little different because we are all career girls going onto a reality show. Sometimes you see someone do a reality show and then they get a career, so it’s a little different especially for me because I had already done TV. So more doors aren’t necessarily opening; they’re opening wider, and opening into a broader spectrum. I definitely have a lot more people that recognize me. Target is the biggest place. I love Target so I’m always in there. I am just really blessed to already have had a successful career when I started the show; so I think that I continue to climb the crystal-studded ladder and things continue to flourish.”
WHAT IS NEXT IN TERMS OF YOUR CAREER?
“Television is my career. I did something for the Steve Harvey Show. I just did something for the Wendy Williams Show, and I’m doing something for the Meredith Vieira Show. I am always open to new opportunities and I would love to one day have my own show.”
BEING THAT YOU LITERALLY WROTE THE BOOK ON BUDGETING; DO YOU BELIEVE IN SPLURGING?
Well you know my book is called Never Pay Retail Again: Shop Smart, Spend Less, and Look Your Best Ever; and what do you think? You think bargains, discounts and deals, half off sales, sixty percent off, and no way I cant pay that if its full price. I think that splurging can be very wise when done with wisdom. What I call that is an investment piece. An investment piece is something like a pointed toe black pump. Season to season, that black pump is going to be in. Also a nude pump or a trench coat, a navy pencil skirt. Those are things that I call classic trends, because they’re things that are in season and will always be in season.
