A new actress has been assigned the role of the late R&B singer Aaliyah. After Disney star Zendaya Coleman dropped out of the biopic because Aaliyah’s family wasn’t on board with production, Lifetime was left in search of a new actress, thus awarding Alexandra Shipp for the role.
The 23-year-old actress has starred in the Nickelodeon TV show “House of Anubis” and she also makes an appearance in season two of “Ray Donovan”.
If you remember a few weeks back the internet was in an uproar when it was revealed that Zendaya Coleman would be playing Aaliyah in the forthcoming Lifetime biopic. Everyone had an opinion, almost attacking her, and although originally Zendaya defended herself and explained why she was deserved the role, she later decided to drop out.
Along with Alexandra, Wendy Williams has been named as an executive producer of the film. Do you think Alexandra will make a better Aaliyah than Zendaya?
