Hip Hop fashion giant A$AP Rocky along with the A$AP Mob premiered their video for the song RAF this week.
A$AP Rocky, who has had an amazing career in fashion, and is a friend to designer Raf Simons, used the video as a vehicle to model looks from Raf Simons’ men’s collection from throughout Simons’ over twenty year career, however, the video mainly pays homage to the fall 1995 men’s collection. The song is A$AP Rocky’s collaboration with rappers Playboi Carti, Quavo, Lil Uzi Vert, and Frank Ocean. The video version, however, doesn’t include Frank Ocean or Uzi Vert’s parts. They took an interesting approach to the video, making it look as if it is a VHS videotape with all of the purposeful technical flaws that came with it.
This wouldn’t be the first time the rapper has looked to designers for inspiration. His song ‘Fashion Killa’ is a melodic tune which tells the story of a possibly fictitious girlfriend with an extensive and expensive wardrobe. The song listed almost every major designer and even shouted out Rihanna. Not to say this is surprising, seeing as how A$AP Rocky has become an unexpected force in the fashion industry. Not only is he always on the invite list to all the major shows during fashion week, he also became the first African American man to ever front a campaign for the house of Dior.
The song was first featured on Frank Ocean’s radio show Blonded Radio on episode 6 of the program back in May. It will no doubt be used in fashion shows and will definitely bring the fashion’s of Raf Simons to the forefront, making them just as widely known as his long standing collections for the Stan Smith Adidas. Raf will be featured on A$AP Mob’s upcoming album Cozy Tapes Vol. 2 which will be released on August 25th.
