A$AP Rocky Reveals Why He Wasn’t Ready For Chanel Iman

When it comes to love and relationships, we often hear and see so many discrepancies on the man’s part that we can forget about willful integrity.

What happens when you date a guy who may really be into you, but isn’t as committed as you may be? Wouldn’t you want him to tell you the truth so that way you can move on? Would you still want to be friends with one another after everything is said?

Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky and former girlfriend Chanel Iman were definitely a good looking couple. They reportedly dated each other for a year and a half which led to a six month engagement however; it was called off in 2014 and so was there relationship.

He sat down recently with MTV and opened up on his breakup. Check out some highlights below:

On Chanel Iman still being his friend:

[Chanel’s] my best friend, man. For real. Because you have to be mature to be in this kind of predicament and have a relationship. I never really talk about things kinds of things, her and I, like that. And she never really talks about me, so I’m really gonna say much on the subject but, she’s happy, and that’s all I want. I want her to be happy.

On whether or not Chanel Iman pulled a Becyone’s “Upgrade U” pertaining to his fashion game:

2011, I couldn’t make it to the MET Ball [because] I was on tour in Europe. Second time I was suppose to make it to the MET Ball and perform with Kanye West [but] I was on tour with Rihanna. Last year, I finally came to the MET Ball with Chanel. So, as far as fashion [and Chanel putting me on] that’s false. That’s my religion. I’m trying not to get too sensitive but you gotta watch your mouth [laughs].

[Chanel] is a very classy woman, but I was born jiggy. Ask her! But she’s like, really elegant and her whole style is classy. I would call her aesthetic “ballroom gowns.” Like, that’s her–she kills that. That’s what I wanted. She looks like a big ass princess and I appreciate her beauty. She’s one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever laid my eyes on.

Of course we’re [still friends]. And we just killed this movie, Dope. Number one at Sundance Film Festival.

On why he wasn’t quite ready for the commitment:

I got really depressed [when] me and Chanel broke up in June. I got really depressed because I knew that–she deserves better than me. That’s the truth and everybody knows it. And I don’t wanna be the guy to Lauryn Hill her, if you know what I’m saying. I love her so much so that I would rather [fall back] than to be with her and hurt her. I don’t want to hurt her. Not that I’m saying she’s some piece of meat that I could just play with. Nah. I’m just saying, just to be mature about things in life — I do know where I am in life — I’m still having fun and I’m young and I need to focus on my career. I still have her. She’s still in my life. It’s a win/win situation.

You have to applaud A$AP because a lot of men will still deal with you knowing their not ready for love and run the risk of hurting you in the process. When a man tells you he’s not ready for a relationship, it’s normally told to the one who isn’t “the one.” And though that can change when he does meet who he believes to be “the one,” he still may not be ready. There’s a quote that says, “Until a man knows himself, he’ll ruin the givers of love that he comes across.”

A$AP Rocky also hooked up with GQ for a nice spread. You can also see him on set spitting a verse from an upcoming album here.
