“DENIM PERSUASION
HIGH-WAISTED HAKIU MY BLUE,
TO YOU I’LL BE TRUE”
<3 ADAM SELMAN
A poem left for his guests, Adam Selman found inspiration in the great outdoors of America. A breath of fresh air from the chaos consuming America, Selman brought the country to New York Fashion Week. A perfect time with his manifestation of Americana style through painted jeans and utility jackets.
“It was decidedly American. In a time where America feels so dark, I wanted to remind people of the light that America has. The talent and tradition of American sportswear,” Adam Selman told i-D Magazine.
While visiting the Georgia O’Keeffe exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, Selman gained insight into America’s off duty personal style. Thus creating a version of the artist’s characteristic denim and gingham. As guests entered the fashion show, they found themselves behind a “red rope” of hand printed paper irises on each side of the runway. Made by artist Daniel Murphy, in collaboration with Papyrus stationery. Doubled down on signature motifs large iris flowers were integrated within the collection, finding them on hems and cuffs.
For Adam Selman Spring/ Summer 2018 collection, Selman tackled America’s current political state dressing the runway with signature motifs. Channeling of all America’s trademark styles from denim to gingham and t-shirts to trench coats. Selman’s collection included: an abundance of denim, classic silhouettes, traditional Americana patterns, overalls, jean jackets, and work pants. Denim is one of America’s classic and has been a regular go-to for Selman. Opposite of the denim, models were outfitted in rompers, gingham pajamas, knitted dresses and silky separates. A first in Selman’s footwear, he had a revival of the Disco- era with platforms in high metallic shades.
