In the wake of all that has shaken the country in the last few days Alicia Keys is calling out for unity in prayer. The mother to be for the second time has released a socially conscience single entitled, “We Gotta Pray.” Using her classic training with the piano she tickles the ivories in hopes to ignite a change to the world. As we grow and transition it looks as though the pain still remains. The steps that once brought us forward as a race of people looks to be splitting us apart more than ever.
This track is calling us out on the lack of prayer. The country is in pain and Keys is using her power and influence to give awareness. At one point we were all heading in a direction of evolution. Along the way the message has been misconstrued and she’s calling an end to the violence with the act of prayer and music. Already the track has caught attention on social media and putting us all to a halt.
She’s gearing back to a time that artists would be apart of the movement too and use their talents to push unity. Marvin Gaye is the perfect example to compare. He was aware of the social issues and didn’t neglect facing towards a solution with the power of his art.
Thankfully for artist like Ms. Keys we are able to be reminded and shown our reflection in her visuals. Take a look for yourself and then pray!
“In the reflective ballad, the singer-songwriter pleads for the world to maintain faith to combat feelings of hopelessness and confusion that are sweeping the world. Keys’ signature instrument, the piano, anchors the gospel-tinged track as she delivers the call to action, “Pray for the world tonight / We gotta save, somebody save somebody tonight.”
