Angela Bassett’s Whitney Is a True Hit with Millions of Viewers!

Angela Bassett has yet another reason to flash those big, pearly white teeth of hers–Whitney was a HUGE hit! The Nielsen Ratings are in from this past weekend and the premiere of the Lifetime film had an astounding 4.5 million viewers! This is amazing not just because of the numbers, but because of the sheer amount of controversy and skepticism surrounding the film. Much of this aforementioned controversy and skepticism stood on solid ground as Whitney followed on the coat tails of the highly negatively received and reviewed Aaliyah biopic that also debuted on Lifetime Fall of last year.

The success of the film can be attributed to better casting, the specials following the premiere, and Deborah Cox’s amazing covers of Whitney Houston’s songs. The detailed and tumultuous marriage between Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, portrayed by YaYa DaCosta and Arlen Escarpeta, respectively; really hit the mark. The actors were amazing and their chemistry was “on fleek” as the kids nowadays would say! Surely, the success of this project will yield more biopics. Hopefully, they will be done by people like Bassett and not Wendy Williams. Sorry Wendy, stick to Hot Topics and sipping tea! How you doin’?

Hey Mikey!

WHO AM I? That’s probably what you’re thinking? It’s simple I’m this generation’s “Dear Abby!” I was raised in the Fourth Ward of Atlanta, educated in the School of Hard Knocks, and rescued by the concrete and steel of New York City. Life at best will always be bittersweet. The sooner you accept that, the better off you’ll be. I’d prefer to be on your sweeter side. Everyone needs a listening ear, extra shoulder, and open arms when life gets rough. I’m your new best friend, whe it all goes south remember I’m a mouse click or tweet away. Hang in there kids, you’re gonna love kickin’ it with me!!! -MIKEY
