When most of us first heard, “The Way” in summer 2013 we thought it was another Mariah Carey chart topping hit. Little did we know it was actually Ariana Grande belting her heart out on her very first single penned by Sevyn Streeter.
In the very beginning Grande would never comment on the comparisons to the legendary diva that is Mariah Carey and now she’s finally decided to speak out.
Recently she stated:
“Mariah has been a huge influence on me since I was a little girl. I’ve even done a cover of one of her songs. I don’t think there are any negatives to being compared to one of the greatest vocalists of all time. It’s honestly a great honor.”
Now if you ask MC about AG your lucky to even get a response. After 18 number 1 singles we can give her a pass. Although its taken some time for Ari to finally give a comment it’s refreshing to see a rising star acknowledge whose come before her. Must we remind you of the continuous Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj debacle? (rolls eyes)
