A$AP Ferg is launching his new collection of home goods. The Harlem rapper has teamed up with Fancy to create a couple of items for his Traplord brand and produce a pop-up shop to introduce buyers to the collection.
The collection currently features items like bean bag chairs, bedding, chairs, clocks, welcome mats and even a scented candle. If you’re wondering what an A$AP Ferg candle smells like, the scent is “Oud and crushed roses”, according to Ferg. He thinks it’s a masculine smell. He eventually wants to add cups and plates to the brand.
Ferg gets his inspiration from Ralph Lauren and the Spice Girls. He loves that Ralph has expanded from just selling clothes to selling everything. Back in the 90s, the Spice Girls did something similar. However, a more contemporary example would be the way that corporations like Disney use their shows to capitalize on all types of merchandise. Case and point, Hannah Montana. Before Miley went psycho.
The home goods collaboration came about after Ferg and his team found out that the owner of Fancy was a fan of his music. He also likes the artwork and fashion that Ferg has been creating, so it seemed like a great fit. First, they teamed up to create the Traplord rug and then jumped straight into pillows, candles, comforter sets, and clocks. Basically, start with things that people can put in their offices or homes.
The pop-up show is modeled after Ferg’s Harlem apartment. He got the idea from him wanting to do a listening party in the apartment that he grew up in. So, he decided to replicate that apartment to showcase the pieces.
Ferg has previously worked with other brands including Adidas, AGOLDE, and Uniform to produce various apparel and merchandise collections. Teaming up with Fancy is just another way to extend his Traplord brand.
