1. Tell us what this book is about?
‘The Baby Momma Journals, Vol.1’ is an Inspirational Guidebook geared toward breaking the negative cycles of Single Parenting. This book gives an edgy, current look at the ways of parenting in a lot of urban neighborhoods today, told from the direct experiences of an Urban, Single mother of seven. Mostly for the sake of allowing not only readers, but parents the opportunity to look at themselves clearly. What drives this book is its ability to encourage much-needed change in our communities with the hopes of stimulating a more prosperous generation.
2. Why did you choose to write this book?
The purpose of this book was two-fold. I first wrote my Memoir, sharing my own personal testimonies as a struggling single parent. I felt that there was a gap in urban writing when it came to individual stories, stories of fantasy, and the truths of a whole generation. Therefore motivating me to write more for what I saw as a ‘missing voice’. There just aren’t real stories out there that truly depict what goes on behind closed doors of single family homes. There are a lot of stereotypes and judgments when it comes to single parenting, mostly misconceptions. I wanted to clarify those and at the same time, allow us deemed ‘baby mommas’ and ‘baby daddies’ the opportunity to take a much needed look at ourselves. We have to stop living up to the stereotypes and make some serious changes in order to allow the children that we’ve created to have a more prosperous future.
3. Tell us why your writing is unique?
I like to think that I represent an unheard voice when it comes to urban writing and Authors. My writings tell the real stories of so many single men, women and single parents whose day to day struggles had yet been told. The stories I write are raw and edgy, more so, they are derived from today’s roughest, urban communities. What’s more important is that these stories need to be told. There’s no fantasy here, only realness at its best!
4. What can we look forward to from you?
Right now, I am putting the finishing touches on ‘The Baby Momma Journals, Vol.2- Confessions’, which is a compilation of personal stories that I received from parents, friends, family members, neighbors, young and old. I was able to compile your stories and develop them into one big, journal style book! So I’m really excited for readers to get firsthand accounts of what parenting looks like today, through experiences other than my own.
I am also writing my first Novel, titled ‘TOUGHER’, which I hope to release by the spring of 2014.
