Minister Rudy Rasmus, who officiated Beyoncé Knowles and Jay-Z’s 2008 wedding and is the leading minister at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas, is coming to her defensive about differentiating her lifestyle and her Christian beliefs stating that he believes she is an “incredible human being.
Beyoncé, who has been a long standing member of his congregation, according to Rasmus, says she used to sing at their altar when she was young. Beyoncé and her family have donated millions to his church and non-profit ministry, Bread of Life, Inc.
Rasmus claims he intentionally doesn’t read the tabloids because he knows that at heart she is a good person and has done a lot of work for charity.
Recently, the pastor, who has over 10,000 members at his church, defended some of the lyrics in Beyoncé’s music after she was criticized for contradicting the purity of Christianity. “Beyoncé is an artist who is expected to entertain people and whichever way she chose to entertain those people, it doesn’t mean that is a reflection of her lifestyle”, he said.
In addition, he says that he doesn’t listen rumors (in response to the infamous elevator altercation between the Solange and Jay Z) he talks directly to a person before making a decision.
In keeping with his defense, Rasmus went on to quote bible scriptures 1 Corinthians 13: “Love never fails. A lot of things will fail, but love will never disappoint you,” and Matthew 7:20-21, which tells us to evaluate people by the fruits they have brought forth in their life.
However, some believe that Rasmus is defending Beyoncé solely for personal and financial reasons and gains for instance to promote his new book “Love Period – When All Else Fails,” which is about loving others regardless of what they are or what they have done.
