BET definitely has a messy situation on its hands with Gabrielle Union’s lawsuit over Being Mary Jane. As you recall, the suit centers around the network trying to make her film the next two ten episode seasons of the hit series back to back. Gabrielle is contracted to do more than a thirteen episode season WITH a break in between to pursue her other ventures and movie roles.
BET responded with the following statement:
“While we hold Gabrielle Union in the highest esteem, we feel strongly that we are contractually well within our rights and are committed to reaching a swift and positive resolution in this matter,”
We are glad they have responded so swiftly and professionally. As of late, the network has been very petty and shady with its spats with other celebrities like Stacey Dash, Bow Wow, and Madonna–although they deserved it. Hopefully, this really will be a positive resolution as Being Mary Jane is not only the network’s highest rated series, but also the best thing it has ever produced. We are not sure what the future of the series will be after these next two seasons, or of they will even decide to do two more. We just hope we get to see Mary Jane Paul leave us with some sort of a happy, fulfilling ending.
