There comes a time when we all have to be honest with ourselves and cut the excuses, wouldn’t you agree? Being that it’s the holiday season and usually known as the time where families bundle together to celebrate things can get a little messy. Aside from the family rivalries and drama I’m dishing about the ones who discover they’re a secret. Being someone’s secret doesn’t necessarily mean you’re the side piece, but that their family isn’t ready to meet you. On the other hand one can only imagine when the right time will be.
Using myself as an example I’ve been in a place where one guy I was getting to know had the interest in meeting my family, but was extremely hesitant about me meeting his. There was no urge from him to have me and his loved ones to interact with one another. He would travel for the holidays to visit his family and leave me behind. Now let’s not get it twisted nor was I sitting at home sad about it, but it made me say to myself, “Do I really want this?” Living thousands of miles away from my loved I came to realize how lonely the holidays could get. Of course with the help of friends it gets easier, but there is nothing like family. Keep in mind to never be fooled and understand that there is a breaking point for everything.
Granted not everyone comes from a loving and understanding household, but when dating there comes a time when an introduction is needed. How many times can someone stay quiet in the background as they speak to his or her parents? How many times are you staying home alone on Christmas? How many times can you cook Thanksgiving dinner for one? Discover when enough is enough and rediscover yourself worth.
Even if you do find out you’re the sidepiece, secret lover, the other woman, or however you want to name it, there always is point of no return. In the end there is nothing like having that piece of mind and being to able exhale loving yourself enough.
