Earth, Wind & Fire graced the stage at the Tennessee Music Festival aka Bonnaroo. The crowd was met with a surprise that made the legendary funk band even groovier than they’ve ever been.
The fans were elated to welcome Kendrick Lamar and Chance the Rapper to the Bonaroo stage.
Dot and Chano performed some of their original music. Chance joined in on the “80’s Throwback Superjam.” The two millennial forces joined the elements to jam out and give the crowd a freestyle performance of epic proportion.
They come from completely different eras in music but the collaboration oh-so-right. As perfect as those 90 minutes were, it was unplanned and unrehearsed – they just grooved.
The two rappers simply spit lyrics off the dome to the melodic sounds of one of the world’s greatest bands of all time – nothing major.
In an interview for USA Today, Earth, Wind & Fire bassist Verdine White said, “I knew who he was, but it wasn’t planned… We stayed up there — what — 90 minutes?
We were only supposed to be up there 70 minutes. You know, you just go. You don’t think about it, you just keep going. He’s in the band right now.”
SZA and illroots 4 Kids Instagrammed some of the festivals epic moments.
