Essence Black Women In Hollywood

Every year during Oscar weekend, all of Black Hollywood’s prestigious and inspiring women gather in one room to celebrate excellence. This year was no different.

Some of our favorites in Hollywood from Oprah, Angela Bassett, Tiffany Haddish and more, gathered together to celebrate the incredible achievements of our people.

Who doesn’t love black girl magic, and what an honor it is for Essence to gather all the black girl magic in Hollywood, in one room, to celebrate US?

Hosted by Insecure actress Yvonne Orji, who shared a sweet message via Instagram, reminiscing about two years ago, when she watched the event through a live feed on her computer. And how now, she is the host.

This year, Essence honored Danai Gurira, Tiffany Haddish, Tessa Thompson, and Lena Waithe.

At the annual event the love extended far beyond the stage, with Danai presenting Lupita Nyong’o with cupcakes for her birthday. Tia Mowry also showed off her growing baby bump. The guest list and attendees, showcased lots and lots, of Wakanda poses.

One of my favorite moments of the evening, was Angela Bassett, making a strong yet valet statement in regards to black women. “When you walk in the room, know that you have everything they’re looking for.” This being something, that every black women needs to hear.

Black Panther Actress, Danai Gurira, gushed about fan reactions to “Black Panther,” she said,

“Us black Women Are Vibranium!” I mean I agree! Don’t you?

So many powerful and talented women in Hollywood were honored during this event. This is definitely something that black women in Hollywood need. As African-Americans don’t receive credit for all the talent we bring to the table. Especially women!  But, as long as we continue to celebrate one another,  that’s all that matters.

So, cheers to Essence for dedicating a ceremony to not only celebrate African Americans in the industry, but African-American women!
