This past Sunday, Atlanta’s own Kontrol Magazine hosted another Beauty Diaries event.
This panel’s discussion was hosted by Kontrol’s Branding/ Marketing Assistant Clarissa Velazquez at Salon Styles. The topics were nails, skincare and braids. On hand to bring these topics to live, Tomica Sarver (Owner of Salon Styles), Terrance Terry (Owner of Luxe Nail Bar) and Shaunell Kenard (Owner of Conceited Inc). Each brings their expertise to the audience to help with their questions.
One take away from the panel is the need to not be super cheap when it comes to your aesthetic maintenance. Keeping hair styles, nails and other beauty add-ons, such as makeup and false eyelashes, can be hazardous to your health. They too have an expiration date.
Shaunell recommends that you seek the help of a professional, such as a dermatologist or an esthetician. Do not rely solely on social media influencers. Also, make sure you are aware of the food consumed and drink plenty of water.
Gel or acrylic? Which is better, when it comes to your manicure/nails? Terrance stated that it is really a matter of preference and its best to do what works for you, as an individual. If you are willing to simply spend a little more, gel nails might be the way for you.
Hair was also a main point during the Beauty Diaries discussion. Tomica advised that the best way to keep your edges is to make sure there is no tension to your hair. She also recommended that you hydrate your hair first, then trim it before using a protective style. In the event that you are a lover of sew-ins and weaves, once again, do not keep the style on your head longer than recommended. If all else fails, stick to your natural hair in between styles.
With all of the great advice provided, some take-aways are to remove hair and nails when it’s time, which is usually a month, keep your hair and scalp clean and moisturized and use lash glue when applying your false lashes because anything else could have an adverse effect on your eyes later on in life.
No one left this Beauty Diaries event on an empty stomach. There were deliciously moist and delectable cookies from Amazing Hands Cookies. Also, guest drank mixed drinks made with Bomade Vodka. Attendees left with goody bags, courtesy of Gyrl Cosmetics. Two lucky winners won the raffle with $100 worth of beauty products.
