Early this year Deidre Palode founded the boutique style Public Relations firm, Maylee Media. Catering to clients in the Fashion, Entertainment, and Sports industry, the Firm has worked with a host of notable clientele. From BET’s Hip-Hop Awards, No Limit Records, and The American Basketball Association, along with Freddy O, Shekinah Jo of T.I and Tiny: Family Hustle as well as Khadijah Rowe, Jasmine Burke, Brad James, former Real Housewife of Atlanta Lisa Wu, R&B Diva Meelah and many more. Deidre is quickly becoming a PR Media Maven. Founded on three basic principals of, resourcefulness, respectability and honesty, Palode believes these are the keys to her thriving business.
From a once aspiring Olympian, Deidre was inspired to pursue Public Relations after watching BET’s hit series The Game. Intrigued by Derwin’s Publicists role in catapulting his career Palode did extensive research on PR, and what a Sport Publicist does. Out of the lighting of her journalistic flame Deidre then took on college internships that allowed her to define exactly what role she wanted to play in the media sphere. While getting her start in Fashion and Entertainment Public Relations, sports is where her true passion lies.
In such a competitive field Deidre only finds her toughest challenge to be working with clients “who have Aston Martin dreams with a Pontiac budget, if that”. Any good businessperson knows that it takes money to make money, and the importance of investing in oneself for the growth of a vision. “I look for clients who want their brand remembered for a lifetime”, says the young and ambitious entrepreneur.
Deidre offers advice to those aspiring to break into the PR field saying, “The grid is so real,” and networking is extremely important. Connecting with other publicists, journalist, and bloggers in the media arena pays off when you start to run into those same people again. She also admonishes everyone to be wary of those with ill intentions towards the growth of your company and personal success. When Deidre is not work she is often in the gym putting in more work. While she does not play sports anymore she still enjoys working out, and is currently working on bulking up. In addition to her PR pursuits, she is also a Personal Trainer. Despite the change in her career path she still manages to stay true to her roots. Outside of the Gym Deidre likes to spend time with her family.
Good news Fellas, she is Single! Until proven Married, that is. Palode describes herself as very personable. She is open to talking and meeting new people. Delving a little deeper into her personal life, I asked her how does she take Kontrol in the bedroom? “I think the bed takes Kontrol of me. When I lay my head on my pillow after a long productive day, it’s a wrap!” Way to keep it Kute!
