Weight loss organizations are truly a thing. Who knew? To belong to a group of those on the same journey is life-changing and can be instrumental in one’s success. The support of others that can relate to what you are going through is necessary for some.
Shanika Wesley, the CEO/Founder, of Pi Phi Xi Fitness & Wellness Sorority Inc.® affectionately known are Pi Fitty Curvy Kitties® wanted just that – so she created it!
When asked what the drive for starting the organization was, Shanika states “I started going to yoga classes only to see skinny college girls in upscale yoga classes with their sorority friends. I realized that not many looked like me. I wanted those girlfriends that I could hang out with, enjoy yoga and eat at dainty bistros afterward!” Pi Fitty Curvy Kitties was born. Shanika states that her husband Gerald joined her on this journey to better health. “He’s a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc, known for their love of chicken and beer, went meatless and has been practicing yoga for three years!” Pi Phi Xi Fitness and Wellness Inc. is not only for women but will impact men as well.
The mission of Pi Fitty Curvy Kitties was to create a sisterhood founded on Yoga + Wellness + Glam. Like your traditional sorority, Pi Fitty has its color and symbols! Uniform: Purple and Fushcia along with Purple Lipstick! The organization has inspired countless curvy ladies of all sizes to grab some yoga pants, cropped branded top, pop that purple lipstick and enjoy a Glam Yoga Class. However, without all of those things, it’s about the attitude. When you look good, you feel good – you DO GOOD!
Recently, Pi Phi Xi Sorority Inc has made their Glam Yoga Class at staple at Spelman College. It has been successful in reducing stress and anxiety during exams for the students and the staff. Other universities are requesting chapters be established to create the bond that Pi Fitty Curvy Kitties brings.
