Atlanta-based health and wellness coach Jamar Robinson is nothing short of talented. Certified as a chemistry instructor, he later transitioned from a fitness trainer to a health and wellness strategist. His brand PlayHrdTrainHrd, is dedicated to connecting with individuals and guiding their daily lives towards a healthier lifestyle.
Jamar and his team take a personal interest in each and every client by analyzing why someone is healthy and what “triggers” they may have. They also provide research and statistics to help people understand the importance of incorporating health and wellness into their lives. With his unconventional approach, Jamar is referred to as a health and wellness strategist because the scope of work includes more than fitness.
Jamar’s clients enjoy the psychological approach that he takes when training them. With a leveled voice he is able to effectively communicate what they need to do, how they need to do it, and the benefits that come from his instructions. He’s also received a lot of popularity for his style of “functional training,” which utilizes everyday movements to improve a person’s overall health and reduce injuries. It’s also great for people who sit at desks all day or are still for long periods of time.
As a proud Florida A&M University alumnus, Jamar originally applied to the school of Pharmacy. As fate would decide with an application mishap, his advisor persuaded him to choose chemistry or biology instead. With a strong affinity for math and science, Jamar chose to take the chemistry route since it was close to his original choice.
Jamar would go on to enter a mastery level Ph.D. program in Medicinal Chemistry. However, he left the program after realizing that his heart wasn’t in it. He would go on to teach for about 6-7 years at his alma mater, before going on to teach at Tallahassee Community College.
He later chose to get into the health and wellness field after meeting a gentleman at the gym who noticed his workout routine. Impressed with his regimen, the guy asked Jamar if he ever thought about becoming an instructor. This moment prompted him to consider the possibility and say to himself, “why not?” He decided to utilize his experience as an instructor and apply it to his love for health and wellness; which is currently thriving.
Jamar’s drive stems from his desire to be 100% dependent upon himself and create his own opportunities. He also wants to live a comfortable life, while still being able to afford a couple of luxuries. However, his greatest source of motivation is his family.
The direction that he has decided to take his life has afforded Jamar great opportunities. For instance, he was the only instructor from Atlanta to participate in the Kevin Hart’s Fitness Initiative.He is also certified as a Nike Trainer

Even though he’s always on the go, Jamar manages to maintain his healthy lifestyle while balancing his business and family life. According to him, the PlayhrdTrainhrd network pushes the notion that they are regular people just like you. Based on that philosophy, Jamar still goes out and occasionally drinks, but does everything in moderation.
Proper preparation is one of the key points of health and wellness. So, Jamar and his family rarely eat meat and stick closely to a plant-based diet. Within his household, everyone takes turns holding the responsibility of cooking and prepping meals.
For him, meal prepping helps to incorporate discipline into one’s diet; especially if they’re new to living a healthier lifestyle. It eliminates the thought process of deciding what to eat and decreases the chances of returning to old, unhealthy habits.
We asked Jamar to break down his daily routine for us and he gave us an entire schedule for a typical day in his life:
3:50 a.m. – Wake Up/Meditate/Affirmations/Focus on big projects for 45mins-1hr
6:00-7:00 a.m. – Begins training sessions
7:00-8:45 a.m. (9:30 on bad days) – Goes home, help with kids, make breakfast, then take kids to school
9:30-10:30 a.m. – Training sessions
10:30-11:30 a.m. – Personal Workout
12:00-1:00 p.m. – Training sessions
1:00 p.m. – Lunch/Focus on brand/Administrative Tasks
4:30-6:30 p.m. – Training sessions
6:45 p.m. – Home, helps wife with kids, dedicate one-on-one spouse time
As an entrepreneur and a disciplined individual, it’s important for Jamar to make the most out of his time. The positive side of working for himself is the flexibility. The one thing that he always makes time for is his wife and kids; especially his wife. The two make sure to set aside time, dedicated to connecting with each other. Ironically, his wife is also an entrepreneur.
In the next few years, expect “PlayHrdTrainHrd” to become a Health and Wellness Empire. This company has grown from small group sessions to developing customized health and wellness residential corporate programs. The network also consults with Park Pride and the Trust for Public Land. .
