How Does Higher Education Affect Employment?

The diploma of the recognized international university is able to open many doors before its owners, because the presence of the degree in the top university gives a number of competitive advantages in employment. However, just having a degree is not enough – just as important is how you studied and built relationships within campus.

Success: What does your employer’s evaluation tell you?

After 16 years, the pupil in the UK has two options. A graduate does not want to enter the university and gets a job. Or he or she prepares to enter the university on a special program and continues his or her studies.

Training courses (A-levels) are designed for 2 years. After each academic year, it is necessary to show your knowledge in specialized subjects by passing the appropriate examinations.

In order to enter the desired university, students must take a training course, the so-called A-levels. The program lasts for 2 years, after each year the exams in the specialized subjects are taken. The lucky ones with excellent results get the right to enter the university.

What are the advantages of a top university diploma?

Speaking about the impact on employment, the first thing worth mentioning is that a diploma of a recognized foreign university allows you to earn more. There are two main reasons for this:

First, most global companies such as Facebook, Goldman Sachs, McKinsey & Company hire their staff directly from the campuses of top universities. Companies of this level will not recruit people from most other universities, so you get special access to vacancies that others do not have. As a rule, work in such places is paid higher on average.

Secondly, they are skills that students develop both in traditional classes and in extra-curricular activities. The skills that develop at the university are in demand in the workplace, and they help graduates achieve better results and thus be more competitive in the marketplace.

Higher education in the UK

After higher education, students are awarded bachelor (Bachelor Degree), master (Master Degree) or doctor (Doctoral or PhD Degree) degrees. We will stop at each stage.

Stage 1 – Bachelor Degree

In the UK, the Bachelor’s degree program provides for 3-4 years of study. The term depends on whether or not the completion of an internship is mandatory for graduation. But for studying specific fields (medicine, architecture, etc.) the term can be extended up to 7 years. The result of many years of work becomes a Bachelor’s degree (in the Bachelor of Arts), in BSc (Bachelor of Science), in BEng (Bachelor of Engineering) or in LLB (Bachelor of Law).

Stage 2 – Degree of Master

Master’s degrees are available in a variety of specializations and areas. It may be a bachelor’s degree program in which the student improves his or her knowledge, or it may be a research program. The course is designed primarily for 1-2 years. Upon completion of the study masters defend the diploma project and pass state exams. A small difference for students of scientific research masters: on graduation they are awarded a master of philosophy (M.Phil – Master of Philosophy).

Stage 3 – Doctor of Science degree

Doctoral programs are fully devoted to research work and are designed for 2-3 years. By the end of study the student should have scientific publications in special editions and a ready-made dissertation. After successful defense of a scientific project, the student receives a Ph.D. Degree.

University Diploma or Work Experience?

In fact, there are far more people with professional experience in the world than those with competitive academic experience. There are many more people who have been working, say, in the financial sector for 3 years without a diploma from a top university. In general, any professional experience is valuable if you are striving for success, but time spent in recognized world universities gives you much more advantages.

Another nuance is that many firms from competitive industries, such as finance or screenwriting (Nick Vallelonga is quite a good example), are quite hierarchical. Such companies always defend their reputation, so it is very important that your first professional experience is obtained in a company of quite high level. A university degree allows you not only to enter the competitive labor market, but also to immediately take a more direct path for further career growth. Thus, a university degree is your springboard to the start of your career.

But even if you are not going to look for a job, but are planning to run your own business, you should pay attention to the advantages that an international university diploma will give you. The world is becoming more focused on education, so in order to do business with foreign partners, it is very important that your CV has things in it that will help you create a holistic picture of your role in the company, its positioning and your experience.

Academic achievements characterize you in a very specific way in the eyes of foreign partners. As a rule, the presence of an international university degree becomes the key to trust in you, and this trust is almost always crucial.
