We are approaching New York Fashion Week, celebrities, stylists and fashion editors flock to the streets of New York to watch the runway’s, scouting looks for the up in coming seasons. But, fashion week isn’t just for top designers. It’s a moment for independent designers to showcase their work for 1 day, hoping to catch the eye of future clients. And, for Jay Hunt Designs, the clothing brand has been able to grasp the opportunity twice.

Nowadays it’s hard to come by custom clothing that’s made to make you feel chic and sexier. Florida based designer Jasmine Hunt has been able to provide custom looks for celebrities and locals for special events and accusations since 2013.

The Texas native, states that fashion wasn’t what she always wanted to do.

I was always the girl in high school who had her own style and dressed differently. My plan was to go to business school, but it was something I wasn’t passionate about. One day I was watching a red-carpet event and sub-consciously I was re-sketching a look because I didn’t like the design and my husband said why don’t you go to design school, and at 18 years old I went into fashion school. said Jasmine.

During high school Jasmine was always known to dress differently and people would always come to her for style advise. Fashion is just something that was in Jasmine, and it came to her without her trying too hard. As a mother of two and businesswoman she has been able to juggle both social, personal and professional life.

Jasmine has designed looks for locals in her residence of Lakeland, Florida, and celebrity clients such as Sevyn Streeter who’s a Kontrol favorite. According to Jay Hunt Designs website, Sevyn wore Jasmine’s designs throughout her entire 2017 Winter Promo Tour. Jasmine states that’s she is so ambitious to expand her brand. She has been able to showcase her work for New York Fashion week 2015 and 2017. Jay Hunt Designs has also been featured in Essence magazine. Running the show by herself can be a process that can be overwhelming, but the designer shares that working under pressure inspires her. And, that type of work ethnic makes Ms. Hunt up for any challenge when under pressure. Jasmine, states that she wishes she was one of those people that have been sewing since 5 years’ old. Which would have provided her more experience at an early stage of her life. But, with the pieces she has created you wouldn’t be able to tell if she hadn’t because the details and quality of clothing are perfection. When she isn’t leading her daughter’s cheer-leading practice or designing looks for NYFW. Jasmine creates gowns for prom and weddings for local clients, and they’re never disappointed.

As she continues to build her brand, Jasmine aims to continue to create a Mommy and Me collection inspired by her daughter. Her goal is to be recognized as a high-end fashion designer, and believes that the foundation starts with the African American community supporting designers like herself that provide great quality clothing.
