Are your ready to see Jamal Lyon in another light? Jussie Smollet is set to guest star in the new Sony Pictures Television and Tribune Studios series, “Underground”, which will air on WGN America. The series is a new thriller which tells the story about slaves as they come together to fight for their lives, their families, and most importantly their freedom. Smollet will play the character of Josey, a wild-eyed runaway who doesn’t seem to trust anyone, not even those placed along the way who tries to help him.
This series is the first series audiences will see Jussie in another acting role aside from his breakout role in FOX’s “Empire”. This role will also mark the twenty year reunion between him and his sister, Jurnee Smollet-Bell, on the small screen.
Also joining the cast will be Aldis Hodge (“Straight Outta Compton,” “Leverage,” “Turn”), Emmy-nominated actor Christopher Meloni (“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For”), Alano Miller (“Jane The Virgin”), Jessica de Gouw (“Arrow,” “Dracula”), Adina Porter (“True Blood,” “The 100,” “The Newsroom”), Amirah Vann (“Girls,” “And So It Goes”),Marc Blucas (“Blue Bloods”), Mykelti Williamson (“Justified,” “24”), Reed Diamond (“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) and Johnny Ray Gill (“Rectify”).
Created and written by Misha Green (“Sons of Anarchy,” “Heroes”) and Joe Pokaski (“Heroes,” “CSI”) the pair will serve as Executive Producers alongside Academy Award®-winning writer Akiva Goldsman (“A Beautiful Mind,” “I Am Legend”) of Weed Road Pictures, Tory Tunnell (“King Arthur,” “Holy Rollers”), and Joby Harold (“King Arthur,” “Edge of Tomorrow”) of Safehouse Pictures. Anthony Hemingway (“The Wire,” “Treme”) will also direct and serve as Executive Producer for the first four episodes of the series.
We’re sure “Underground” will be a huge hit among audiences! “Underground” is currently in production in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and is slated to premiere in 2016.
