We all fell in love with Justice’s sultry and “no non-sense” attitude in one of our favorite and very unconventional love stories- “Poetic Justice.” But what made Justice’s character even more appealing were her gigantic box braids that she so boldly and fearlessly rocked. Now I know what you’re thinking: “Braids aren’t for me”, or “I wouldn’t look right with braids”, or “How are my co-workers going to respond when they see my new hairstyle?” In response to that last daunting thought, always remember that you should never be taxed for something that is ultimately out of your control, which is the texture of your hair. If you feel like rocking box braids or that curly fro to work tomorrow, then by all means DO SO! Forget about how you think everyone else may feel about you. Be confident.
If you’re making the transition from relaxed to natural hair, box braids can be a great way to make that journey a little less stressful. The only downside to getting box braids is that they may take from five to eight hours to get done, but beauty doesn’t always come easy… right? Once you get passed the hours that you’ve spent sitting in one position, your box braids will become your new best friend. They can last you from three to four months. Whenever you’re going out, nothing, and I literally mean nothing has to be done to your hair. You can also do countless styles with them (my favs are high buns and high ponytails). It’s no wonder why some of our favorite celebs such as Beyonce, Lashontae Heckard, Keri Hilson, Solange, and many more have been spotted rocking the trend (which has been trending for quite some time now).
With all of this being said, I urge and encourage all of you “Naturalistas” to get some braids! You won’t regret it. Give those full-head weaves a break for a second and embrace, but don’t be a stranger to that thing that many of us love to hate- change.
