Kanye West’s Yeezy Boost sneakers by Adidas have been named the “Shoe of the Year” by Footwear News. The rapper turned fashion designer’s collaboration with Adidas has been the talk of the season. Not only has his sneakers sold out in under 15 minutes during it’s initial release, they’ve been resold on sites like Ebay for up to $10,000.
“This year’s Shoe of the Year honour recognises the insatiable demand for all things Yeezy,” said Footwear News. “The sneaker releases dominated the market in 2015 as demand for the product crashes servers, sparked extraordinary resale value and created a need for mob control in stores. From the moment Kanye West unveiled the 750 high-tops on the Grammys, his Adidas sneakers have been the most coveted, most talked about, most recognized shoes this year.”
Kanye West will be honored on December 2nd at the 2015 Footwear News Achievement Awards. This is a huge accomplishment for the designer since he has vocally expressed difficulty progressing in the fashion industry. With his line finally in stores and his sneakers being named the Shoe of the Year, I’d say 2015 was a good year for Mr. West!
