Christian Rap artist Flame and Lecrae are suing ‘Dark Horse’ singer, Katy Perry and feature artist Juicy J, claiming the song was stolen from their 2008 song ‘Joyful Noise’. The Missouri artist filed suit in Federal court in St. Louis, which includes Perry, Juicy J, Capitol Records and more. July 1st the group filed suit for copyright infringement, exploitation and profit of the song. It is also reported that the Plaintiffs feel the song, ‘Dark Horse’ gives them a bad reputation, by confusing listeners.
According to the group their 2008 songs beat and melody was slowed down and subsequently created ‘Dark Horse’. ‘Joyful Noise’ is sited as been, “irreparably tarnished by its association with the witchcraft, paganism, black magic and illuminati imagery evoked by the same music in “Dark horse’”.
Both songs open up with an almost technical pulse like sound. At first listen it would be hard to identify any similarities between the two songs, however the Gospel Rap artist may have legitimate founding for the accusations. Some might think it is highly unlikely that Katy Perry would ever hear one of the group’s songs, but Katy Perry was once a gospel artist herself. That’s right! Perry got her start in the music business strumming an acoustic guitar for the Lord. Growing up she was heavily immersed in religious culture as a PK, also known as Preacher’s Kid.
Well Pastor, it seems Katy has fallen from grace. Between the alleged hijacking of ‘Joyful Noise’ and the ritualistic visuals in the ‘Dark Horse’ video, it is not surprising that her father referred to her as a ’Devil child’ in a 2013 sermon. Check out the videos below and tell us what you think! Is Katy Korrupt?
