What made you decide that enough was enough and you were going to lose weight?
One of my sorority sisters, Porsha, died of a heart attack at age 29. She was only a week younger than me, and she too was overweight. After her death, I started living in fear of when my time would come; I knew that if I didn’t do something I would live in fear for the rest of my life.
What was it like when you found out that you’d been accepted to take part in the show?
I was elated to be accepted to the show! I knew that this was my opportunity to gain a healthier lifestyle, and I promised myself that I would do everything in my power to be successful. I surrendered to the process fully, and never complained about the food or the workouts. Whatever I was given to do, I was going to do it!
What experience was the most difficult for you on “Extreme Weight Loss?”
The most difficult thing for me was feeling that I was letting myself down whenever I didn’t hit my goals. I started the year off thinking “I can do this!”, and yet, kept falling short at my weigh-ins. It was frustrating knowing that I was doing everything in my power to hit my goals and it still didn’t matter. But I never gave up…
What advice would you give to other overweight people that want to lose weight?
In order to lose weight, first you have to change your relationship with food. Once you do that, you can often drop weight easily, because you’ve taken the power away from food. Weight loss is simply calories in and calories out. Make those calories count. And most importantly, STOP EATING FAST FOOD AND DRINKING SODA!
What are the best things you found about losing weight?
The best thing about my new and improvised weight is that my attitude and relationship with shopping has changed. Now, I can walk into any store and find something to wear. I’d never been able to do that before.
Is there anything you are doing now that you never would have done before losing weight?
I now run 10 miles everyday. Before, I would have NEVER…I couldn’t have! Lol!
What is “Beauty Mark”?
Beauty Mark is a health and beauty blog I’m developing that will allow me to share both my tips and secrets as a makeup artist and beauty expert along with my personal stories and struggles as I continue to maintain my weight loss. Beauty Mark is all about the power of combined physical, mental and emotional transformation.
