When Naima Mora first came on Cycle 4 of America’s Next Top Model, we were not aware of the strong impact that she would make on our society. Since winning Cycle 4 Naima has done work with CoverGirl, Cosmetics. Look, and Eluxe Magazine just to name a few.
The 30-year-old has been on TED to talk about her life in Detroit and living and her religion of Buddhism. Mora also wrote a book called Model Behavior in 2013 that she also used as a tool to talk about her life experiences.
The opportunity to speak with Ms. Naima Mora was truly a treat. She makes you feel like you have known her forever. One thing is to her beauty on the outside but another is experience her heart. Welcome to the heart of a true artist and role model.
Naima comes from a family of musicians and artists. Based on her family background, I was interested in knowing what the arts meant to her. “Art is culture. It connects to people intimately.” When I asked her if her artistic background influenced her modeling career, she enthusiastically said, “definitely! I wanted to study classical ballet. It influenced, as a model, my movement and dimension.”
Naima was inspired to go into the modeling industry when she moved to New York. At the time she was ballet dancer attending the Dance Theatre of Harlem. A good friend of her older sister was the main factor to why she decided to try and go into modeling. Of course we know that that was a perfect decision.
“I can’t say if it’s changed or not. I can say that it has been fulfilling,” was what Naima said when asked if her life has dramatically changed since A.N.T.M. Cycle 4. Her modesty flowed with each question that was asked. A quality that is not common these days.

“I find that I influence more young people. I am grateful.” Along with her modesty comes humility and these are qualities that anyone can learn from. Naima channeled her blessings into positivity. It’s truly refreshing to interview someone with such talent and a warm personality. “I felt like what I did on the show was minimal. I try to give back to people what they have given to me.”
Naima is a good example of taking Kontrol of your life and making it something beautiful. Be inspired!
