Kontrol Mag Talks The Weave Business And Hair Care With Myra & Dana of Glam Extensions

If you’re on the hunt for luxury virgin weave at an affordable price, Glam Extensions has you covered. Glam Extensions was started by  two homemakers turned business women, Dana Winsley and Myra Boulware from Philadelphia, PA. The mother and daughter duo were inspired to go into the hair business after getting feed up with wasting money on cheap, low quality hair.  All of their friends and family seemed to be having the same issue, so they proceeded to take action. After thorough research and planning, Dana and Myra turned their dream of providing women with affordable glamorous hair into a reality.

Kontrol Mag: How did the idea of Glam Extensions come about?

Glam Extensions: At the time we were both stay at home moms who wanted to go back to work. So since we grew tired of spending obscene amounts of money on hair that didn’t give us a bang for our buck, we both decided to start our own luxury hair business.

KM: There is a saying, never go into business with family, but that didn’t stand in your way of starting Glam Extensions. What is it like being a mother and daughter duo?

GE: Sometimes it can be challenging, but we both have a goal of making the business successful.

KM: What types of hair and textures do you carry? What are the price ranges?

GE: We carry Eurasian, Brazilian and Malaysian hair. And our hair textures range from curly, wavy to straight. Our price ranges are $150-$270.

KM: The weave industry is a very competitive and saturated market. How does Glam Extensions stand out among the rest?

GE: We are for luxury at an affordable price, and that is something that a lot of other hair businesses don’t offer. We are the only company in the Tri-state area that sells the textures we mentioned previously.

KM: What are some of your best tips on properly taking care of weaves and wigs to extend their longevity?

GE: Our hair can last up to a year with the proper care. We suggest that women sleep with a satin cap, wash hair once a week, and use a good conditioner. Also, women should be aware that for different textures of weave it requires specific products to maintain the quality of the hair. For example, if you like wearing curly weaves buy products that are strictly for maintaining that texture.

KM: At first Glam Extensions only offered luxury premium hair online, and now there is an actual store for customers to purchase all OF their hair needs. Why did you both decide to open up a retail store?

GE: It was actually my Myra’s decision to open a store. She thought it would be great for our customers to be able to touch and see the hair. There are a lot of people, who are skeptical about purchasing weave online, so with the adamant demand of our products we wanted to offer a full GE luxury hair shopping experience.

KM: Besides fabulous luxury hair, what other services does GE provide?

GE: We are both a hair boutique and full service salon. Our salon services include sew-ins, wash and curl, eyelash extensions, makeup application, etc. We also sell hair care products, hair tools and hair extensions.

KM: What do you both see in the near future for Glam Extensions?

GE: We definitely plan on becoming a franchise, and branch out to other major cities. We’re always getting calls about when we will be coming to their town, so we want to make GE available to people all around the world.
