It’s probably one of the reasons I often think about what fads and trends future generations will laugh at from our time.

Think about it, we actually tried to make squiggle brows a thing this year.

What about using anything but makeup brushes to apply our foundation? Louboutins, staplers, and bananas were all fair game to get a sharp Instagram-worthy contour.

Despite these “What Were We Thinking” moments, 2017 has brought us some iconic beauty trends. We want to share with you some of our favorites.

1. Statement Brows

This year bold eyebrows took center stage in our makeup routines. The bigger the brow the better. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz and Glossier’s Boy Brow became our must-haves in our makeup bags.

2. The Fenty Effect: 

In September, Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty. This was a complete game changer for the industry. She debuted with 40 foundation shades making it possible for people of all skin tones to find their perfect match. If you weren’t rocking Trophy Wife, you definitely were swiping on Gloss Bomb for the perfect amount of shine.

3. Long Hair Don’t Care:

Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj and Cardi B are just a few of our favorite celebrities that gave us beautiful long flowing hair.

4. Shimmer and Shine

With special thanks to Pat McGrath, glitter lips were in this year.

5. Mask On

2017 was the year of face masks. We had plenty of options to refresh dull and exhausted skin.  K-Beauty, bubble and charcoal peel-off face masks are just a few that took over our beauty bags.

6. Face Elixirs

Prepping and priming our skin for our makeup routines was huge. This became extremely important once the glowing skin trend took off this year. To help us achieve that skin-deep glow, we turned to shimmer elixirs and serums. A fan fave in 2017 was the Farsli Exlir. These products added just enough shimmer to give skin a healthy all over glow.

7. Decorated Braids

Braids were a huge trend on their own. Who wasn’t rocking Lemonade Braids? Rings, shells, and beads elevated braids to be works of art. Kelela and Solange became pros of these beautifully braided styles.

8. Blonde Hair

Golden, ash and platinum shades of blonde were a hit in 2017. Beyoncé, Solange, and Monica are just a few leading ladies that nailed their blonde hairstyles this year.

9. Holographic Highlight

Holographic make-up amped up our beloved highlighting trends by giving us multi-colored strobing. Highlighters debuted in shade of purple, red and blue for an iridescent pop.

10. Faux Freckles

Faux Freckles took YouTube by storm. Beauty gurus shared their tips to go from bare-faced to freckle-faced in an instant. The trend has since evolved to even include metallic freckles for a unique twist on everyday beauty.

11. So Glossy

Gloss made a statement this year. Not only was gloss used to add shine to your lips but we started applying all over to create dewy, fresh-faced makeup.

12. Bare Skin

“No Make-Up” Make-Up became major this year. With a push towards minimalism and clean diets, less is more was the look. Letting our skin breathe, we chose Glossier skin tints over foundations. We even swapped out our beloved lipsticks for gloss and tinted balms.

13. Bold Lips

Bold lipstick colors were the top choice in 2017. Vivid oranges, subtle greens, and pale lavenders became go-to statement shades.

14. Colorwashed Eyes

With a single color swiped over the eyes, made a huge beauty moment this year.

15. Graphic Eye Liner

Simple black liner transitioned into minimal looks with bright colors. Blue, white and yellow were top picks when going for a pop of color in your beauty look.
