Labor Day marks the end of the summer and back to the grind for many of us. Daylight season ends and for most of us only several long months of work separate us from the holidays as we dried up our allotted vacation time on summer trips to the beach or Disneyworld. So in consideration of all this, you may experience a little case of “end-of-summer” blues. When I find myself feeling a little down as the weather cools off, I try the following to keep myself healthy and happy.
Treat yourself to a massage. Or a trip to the golf course. Or a visit with a friend you have not seen in awhile. The main point here suggests giving yourself something to look forward to. I happen to love a trip to the spa, so setting aside a few dollars a week to treat myself to a decadent massage gives me a great treat to help me look forward to in the weeks ahead, but feel free to insert whatever you love here.
Join a gym. Summertime invites us outside for activities that get the blood pumping, which naturally helps us feel better. As the weather gets colder though, we avoid the elements outside. Joining a gym provides the opportunity to not only stay fit, but also take fun classes like cycling and Zumba! allowing for an interactive workout which helps your heart and state of mind.
Enrich yourself. Take a class…or volunteer…or get more involved at church. Participating in an activity that gets you more involved in your community will teach you invaluable life lessons and help you possibly make a new friend.
What do you do to ward off the wintertime blues?
