When getting my hair done by a new stylist the first thing that comes to mind is “I pray they know what they’re doing!” Atlanta is known for many stylist, but I came across one who, not only knows what she is doing, but is GREAT at it! So let me introduce you to celebrity stylist, Danie Wilks! Danie specializes in sew-ins, color, quick weaves, and some much more! Now when us women visit the salon, our main goal is to get in, and get out QUICK, without looking a mess! Danie provided quick services and gave me great tips along the way, and my hair…FLAWLESS! I had a chance to interview Danie and learn more about her…..
You are great at what you do…What made you want to become a hair stylist?
DANIE: Hair styling has always been a talent for me. I have had a passion for it for as long as I can remember. I think I officially decided that I wanted to be a hair stylist though when I was 14 and had real clients like my school teachers, family and friends.
What are your go to products?
DANIE: I used many product lines depending on what I’m doing but I use Moroccan Oil, Redken and Design Essentials for shampoos/conditioners and styling agents (gloss, hairspray, etc….).
What trends are you most excited about for the Fall?
DANIE: Trends come and go and some even repeat. This fall I am into making my clients set their own trends. It’s whatever makes you feel comfortable. I do however like coppers and dark reds for colors.
The new trend for African-American women is going back “natural” (no chemicals used). How do you feel about this?
DANIE: The who natural movement is Great IF it works for you. I have clients who are natural and who still wears relaxers and both still have healthy hair. People just needs to do what works for them and stop bandwagoning LOL!
I, myself, have gone “natural”. What are some tips that you think us “natural girls” need to know for things that we should and should not do to maintain our hair?
DANIE: Going natural can be great especially certain textures like fine hair or if you love to wear color. People assume that just because you’re natural doesn’t mean you have to do anything to your hair and that’s not the case. You still need to stay on top of your conditioning treatment to lock in moisture considering natural hair usually is much dryer. Trims are also just as important like every 8-12 weeks sometimes sooner.
You’ve done a lot of work with Kontrol Magazine… who has been your most exciting celeb that you have worked with?
DANIE: Kontrol Magazine has giving me great opportunities to work with many celebrities including SWV & Elle Varner just to name a few. Elle Varner was a pretty cool laid back celeb. I really loved working with her.
Who your dream celebrity that you hope wanted to bless their hair with your talented hands?
DANIE: I would love to do Beyonce’s hair one day and considering I got the chance to style her main dancer, Ashley Everett, anything is possible.
How can Kontrol readers reach you to get their “Danified” experience?
DANIE: If you need to reach me “Google Me” LOL.. but they can visit my website
www.iamdanie.com. Also, on Instagram (@_Danified), Twitter (Danified), and on Facebook (Iamdanieee).
Based off the compliments I’ve received, the natural look of my sew-in, and the care and styling of Danie… my “Kristin Kraving’s” is a YES! Lets all get “Danified”!
