Olympic Gold Medalist Angel McCoughtry star forward for the Atlanta Dream, recently made headlines a couple of weeks ago as being named one of the United States’ 25 finalists for its National Team for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
“I so excited it’ll be my second time going to the Olympics, like I tell everyone there’s nothing in my career that tops being an Olympian, that title carries with you for the rest of your life, your not just Angel McCoughtry your Angel McCoughtry Olympic Gold Medalist.”
last year when she announced her engagement with longtime friend Brande Elise via Instagram. Officially coming out as being a lesbian McCoughtry says,“I got more positive feedback than negative, I mean of course with family they don’t approve at first, my father was a pastor so you know how that goes lol.” McCoughtry then goes on to explain some of the questions she would get pertaining her sexuality and behavior.
“I remember somebody told my Aunt, wow I didn’t know she was gay because she acts so girly.” In society there’s this stigma that homosexuality has a look, that gay men act like women or that lesbians should act masculine like straight men.
“ I’m still girly and it’s just crazy how people have in there heads what gay is suppose to look like, what its suppose to be.” She continues, “Me and my fiancé are two beautiful women in love that simple.”
Brande an actress and social media blogger first met McCoughtry through a mutual friend. McCoughtry says, “We were at a mutual friends house and she introduced me to Brande you know nothing out of the ordinary, so later on I followed her on IG and saw that we had a lot of mutual friends. I started liking and commenting on a couple of pictures and I guess she took notice and decided to dm me telling me about her blog. It was about why people come to Atlanta since a lot of people who stay here aren’t from here. So I did the interview and it was this weird energy lol, and after that we hung out everyday and been together ever since.” McCoughtry and her fiancé Elise were just featured on an episode of TLC’s “Say Yes To The Dress” McCoughtry explains her and Brande’s meeting with fashion director of the show Monte Durham.
“We met Monte going to the Kentucky Derby and so we were at this VIP luncheon and we see Monte across the room. So we went over to him and spoke and he says hello ladies lol you know in his voice, and long story short he loved us and said we had to be on the show. So he got our information talked with producers and we were on the show. We were a little hesitant at first especially with my side of the family I don’t want to feel like I’m embarrassing them, but you know once again I have to do what’s best for myself and what makes me happy.”
McCoughtry and Elise’s episode of Say Yes To The Dress aired Friday January 29th giving viewers a peek into beautiful couples life outside of the basketball arena. Girly girl McCoughtry says, “I love big weddings, but we decided to do something on the smaller tip not so extra just something with mutual friends and family keeping it intimate.”
McCoughtry also reveals a possible date for the nuptials. “Because it’s an Olympic year we decided that we were going to do it after the Olympics this fall.” On balancing personal life and career McCoughtry says that it’s actually quite simple. “I just enjoy life and I get paid to do what I love, its like I don’t have a real job and that’s what makes it enjoyable.” Angel McCoughtry and Brande Elise is for sure the perfect match with thriving careers and a bond that can’t be broken this beautiful couple is sure to make it throughout years to come. – EffYeahMark
