It is being reported that O’Shea Jackson, Jr., son to Ice Cube, will make his acting debut as his father in the F. Gary Gray film “Straight Outta Compton”, based on Compton gangster rap group N.W.A.

N.W.A. has made headlines and headways in the hip-hop world. From their triumphant start in 1986 to their tumultuous breakup in 1991, the biopic will be a “Dramatic story that encompasses hip hop, dope-dealing, Reaganomics, AIDS, LAPD, rap feuds, FBI, PMRC, the Parental Advisory stickers on the records…all of it,” said Ice Cube.

Casting began this past January and although Dr. Dre wanted Michael B. Jordan to play the role, it was Jackson who snagged it. Jackson is new to acting but his father has convinced Universal executives that he is ready for the part.”I’ve been trying to get that pushed along”, said Ice Cube. “Just wanna make sure that he’s the best man for the job.” With the resemblance to his father, this casting is very befitting.

Rumor has it that Easy-E’s son was attempting to play the role of his dad but it is being reported that Jason Mitchell, most notably starring in Mark Walberg led 2012 film Contraband, will play the role of Easy-E. In addition, Marcus Callendar will play super producer Dr. Dre.

Dr. Dre announced  on Twitter that the biopic will be released on August 14, 2015! It also being reported that Universal Studios could announce the entire cast by the end of the week.  Ice Cube, Tomica Woods Wright (Easy-E’s widow), and Dr. Dre are the producers of the film.
