Michelle Williams is back with her second single “Fire” off of her fourth solo album Journey To Freedom, produced largely by Harmony Samuels. Kontrol had the pleasure of being behind the scenes at the video shoot directed by uber talented Derek Blanks. When you hear the song, it doesn’t give you a gospel feel but it is very inspirational. Michelle describes her music as urban inspirational…it’s upbeat and doesn’t have a churchy feel (my definition) LOL
She didn’t know if she had the energy to do music anymore.
“I really dug deep with this record. There was a time where I went in the studio in Nashville, and I was like, ‘I’m not going to be able to do it,’” she confessed. “I didn’t know how I was going to do a whole album. I was going through some things.”
Take a listen to the track below, I think you’ll like it. It’s totally unexpected and I look forward to seeing the final product of her music video.
In other news….
Ledisi is back and feeling good! The New Orleans native has premiered her brand new single entitled, “I Blame You,” the anticipated follow up to 2011′s Pieces of Me.
Despite the slightly negative title, the song is actually very positive. “It’s about a relationship and you’re excited about the person making you excited about you, again. So, you’re blaming that person for bringing some light into your life.” And for eagerly awaiting fans, it’s a taste of the new album. “[The song] gives you insight to the honesty and the sensuality to what is to come,” Ledisi followed up.
Talking to Essence the singer addressed if she’s referring to someone special in her life who she’s “blaming” for her newfound happiness. “[Laughing] I have experienced someone radiating light into my world and making me feel good about me. It’s also about feeling good about you first, then enhancing that… Someone is making me smile and it feels good!”
The song will hit iTunes on September 30. Listen to Ledisi’s new single “I Blame You” below. Via Essence
