Married to Medicine cast member, Genise Shelton, is on a mission to bring our girls home. Yesterday (August 5), Genise hosted the Bring Our Children Home 5k and Family Fun Day in an effort to bring awareness to sex trafficking and supply children with the tools they need to succeed. To say Genise’s event was a success is an understatement. The event was a well-needed, candid, and informative conversation amongst the community.

Bring Our Girls Home
Genise’s continuous efforts to bring awareness to a problem that is often overlooked by the media are not in vein. Thanks to the panel of local law enforcement, attendees were educated on the disheartening facts surrounding sex trafficking in Atlanta. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Atlanta is one of the largest sex trafficking hubs in the country.
Most people will be dismayed to learn the number one spot for sex trafficking takes place at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the airport! Next time you’re at the airport rushing to catch your flight, keep in mind every young girl that stepped foot in Hartsfield-Jackson but never had the chance to make it out. In 2007, the sex trade generated 290 million dollars in Atlanta alone. If that number isn’t enough to raise concern and encourage others to make an effort toward bringing our girls home, then what will it take?

Genise Shelton’s Our Children’s Keeper
In attendance were TV personality Carla Stephens, Basketball Wives LA cast member Angel Love, Q Parker of 112, CheMinistry founder Chanel Scott, author Krys King, comedienne Alisha Coley, BET’s The Quad Kevin Savage, actor Frankie Cedano, and 702’s Meelah. I believe the entire audience and myself reached a breaking point when a survivor of sex trafficking, Toni D. Rivera, shared her story. Toni’s strength is admirable. Toni’s revelation made something very clear to the audience. What happened to her could happen to anyone.

Genise Shelton
As a business owner, producer, TV host, actress, and mother of six, Genise Shelton is making a major contribution toward educating our community on the dangers of sex trafficking. When she addressed the audience and spoke about her connection to the cause it made everyone want to help. Thank you Genise for your selflessness and willingness to go above and beyond to save the lives of so many innocent young women.
