While celebrating the release of her newest album, Journey To Freedom, Michelle Williams made a stop right here in Atlanta. The private listening party was star studded and definitely in high spirits for the former Destiny’s Child member. Before her arrival to the gathering it was a pleasure to see rising R&B singers OMG, Meelah from R&B Divas, D Woods, and even LeLee from SWV. I guess a few new and seasoned girl group members were in the building. Once arriving to her bash Williams seemed a little taken back and surprised by the response of the energetic crowd.

Michelle Williams arrives to the bash!
When hitting the stage to speak to the crowd her spirit was filled with joy in nerves as she discussed how this album represented so much to her. Williams spoke of how in the beginning stages of the album she struggled with taking a compliment others. The reason was due to a lack of confidence within herself. For example, she went around the crowd and gave sporadic compliments and then asked, “How many of you received compliments and then thought to yourself that the person was lying.” The question hit home to many of us within the crowd. She followed up with how her new music was what pulled her out of that space.
From the outside looking in many of us would have thought that Williams had it made. The fact that she was apart of a chart topping, platinum selling girl group, and riding off of a successful solo gospel career seemed as though she had everything. All a long the starlet was suffering from depression. She spoke of being placed in a box with her music and then challenged to break through by her trusted producer. With her new sound she coincidently arose from the dark chapter in her life. When listening to her developed sound she can be compared to how, Mary Mary, have successfully blended Hip Hop and R&B with Gospel. As the church may disagree sometimes with the blending of the genres it looks like everyone is praising Michelle for taking this new lead of inspiration!
