In recent years, men have really committed to the “No shave”/#Beardgang lifestyle. From the nomadic bro to the corporate guy, they’ve embraced their facial hair to the point of even creating a month-long celebration, i.e. Movember or No Shave November. However, with great power comes great responsibility, which is why Scotch Porter exists.
Today, Scotch Porter is a high-end men’s grooming brand that provides products for beards, skin, and hair. They have many products under their belt but pride themselves on their standards for beard maintenance. The brand has stuck by four essential products that promise to keep men’s beards clean, healthy, soft, and prosperous: Moisturizing Beard Wash, Hydrate and Nourish Beard Conditioner, Scotch Porter Beard Balm, and Smoothing Beard Serum.
All of these products provided by Scotch Porter for beard care have been tried and tested by a Kontrol Homme professional. Basically, a guy with a beard who happens to work for Kontrol used them for a few weeks. But nonetheless beard enthusiasts can be assured that Kontrol doesn’t play any games when it comes to clothing, grooming, or hygiene; so let’s get into it.
The first thing to remember is that these products work together as a unit or a system. So, skipping a step or deciding not to use one with the others decreases the likelihood of getting the results that a beard aficionado is looking for. However, by using these products we’ve found out that Scotch Porter is so good that results were still obtained without the constant use of one of the products provided. We’ll reveal which one later on.

First up is the Moisturizing Beard Wash. You have to wash your beard. just like you have to wash your hair to keep it clean. Those crumbs from yesterday’s turkey sandwich might still be lurking in your facial locks.
The beard wash that Scotch Porter provides is sulfate-free and made from natural materials. If you read on the back label all of the ingredients are listed. Scotch Porter is also nice enough to provide the origins of certain ingredients that aren’t recognizable to the average English speaker. For instance, Cocamidopropylamine Oxide is derived from coconut oil, according to the label provided by Scotch Porter. A quick Google search confirms that it is extracted from coconut oil and combined with Dimethylaminopropylamine; another organic compound. Both are frequently used in shampoos and other cosmetics.
Detailing every ingredient and where they come from is a trend that is seen across all Scotch Porter products. The brand prides itself on only using natural and organic materials. It’s a much-appreciated addition for people who like to be informed about their products. It’s nice to be able to know exactly what you’re putting on your skin and in your body.

Washing your beard with the beard wash is as simple as shampooing your hair. After you finish it’s time to use the Hydrate and Nourish Beard Conditioner. This is actually our favorite product for the simple fact of smell. To be honest, the beard wash works great but it smells like glue. Fortunately, the products smell doesn’t stick around to the effect that your beard smells like glue all day. But, it does take away the excitement of the washing phase.
Unlike the wash, the conditioner’s smell is intoxicating. It’s hard to explain, almost like cinnamon but better. The scent profile contains both spices and sandalwood that blend quite nicely. After using it, your beard will feel so soft and smooth. That’s because the conditioner contains a lot of natural oils in a thick cream.

The next step after conditioner is balming. Like the conditioner, the Scotch Porter Beard Balm is a thick cream but it only takes a very small amount to be massively effective. Take a little bit, apply it, and then comb it throughout the entire beard. It promises to help tame and promote growth. Side note, the balm has the same scent profile as the conditioner, but the sandalwood comes out more in this product.

Last but not least, is the Smoothing Beard Serum, which promises to seal in moisture and smooth down cuticle hair. It also aims to make your beard silky smooth. To be honest, this was the product that we didn’t use much at all. There’s nothing wrong with it, however after using the wash, conditioner, and combing the balm through it just seemed like an unnecessary addition. It’s perfect for the guys who like to spend a lot of time styling their beard. But for the rest of us who like a clean, healthy, natural beard it’s not a big deal.
So, Kontrol approves all four items with a gold star for the conditioner. Using these products together will give men clean and healthy beards that are full, shiny, and soft. In addition to the benefits for beards, Scotch Porter also has benefits for your pockets.
All of these products are valued at $20 each. A couple of the products like the beard wash and bead balm come in more than one size. Men can all four in $69.99 in their standard sizes. The best part is that all of the products have a standard size that will last 3 months. So, men are not only saving $10 by purchasing the collection, but they’re technically purchasing four items for $23 a month.
All these products separately and as a collection are available exclusively on the Scotch Porter website. Men should also check out their skin care and hair care products, as well as a couple of their accessories.
