With the intense uproar of the nation with the Mike Brown/Eric Garner verdicts, celebrities are using their major platforms to voice their support. Last night, Cleveland Cavaliers stars Lebron James and Kyrie Irving donned their “I Can’t Breathe” shirts along with a few more players from the Brooklyn Nets. “I can’t breathe” is a slogan from the last words of Eric Garner before he died in the chokehold of a NYPD officer.
A few days before, we saw Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose sport the same shirt before the Bulls-Warriors game.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silva said;
“I respect Derrick Rose and all of our players for voicing their opinion on important issues but my preference would be for players to abide by our on-court attire policy”
Although Silva would rather the players follow their company policy, he also said that the players will not receive any fines for the t-shirts.
Much respect for the sports world for showing their support and displaying American issues on a platform that can reach millions of people.
