Have You Heard? Top 10 New Male Artists of the Year

A lot of new artists have entered the music industry within the last two years. Quite frankly, it’s hard to keep up with them all. We hear their songs on the radio, but who has time to look them up or even Shazam or SoundHound the songs to download later. Below are 10 of the top male artists in the industry right now. Learn who’s who and check out what they’ve done.

Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, 21 Savage came on the music scene in 2014 with his single “Picky” off his debut mixtape The Slaughter Tape. The song became very popular in AtlantaHowever, it wasn’t until he collaborated with popular producer Sonny Digital for his EP Free Guwop that be dropped “Red Opps” which gained mainstream recognition and was his first song to chart. At the end of last year, 21 Savage released his second EP Savage Mode which features two popular hits, “X” and “No Heart”.

6LACK gained popularity with his debut single “Prblms” after signing to Interscope last year. Prior to signing to a major record label, he left college and signed to a smaller label that didn’t believe in his vision and wouldn’t allow him to release music. It was until he teamed up with Love Renaissance, a creative agency in Atlanta, that he started to see results. At the end of last year, 6LACK released his debut album Free 6LACK which also earned him a spot as one of the top new artists to watch.

Aminé

One name, Caroline, and were not talking Andre 3000 circa 2004 when Outkast released “Roses”. Aminé’s single “Caroline” was one of the most played songs the radio last year. The Portland, OR born rapper started his career by making diss tracks about other school’s basketball teams in high school. He went through three mixtapes from 2014-2015, however when he released “Caroline” the song shot up to number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.  Aminé has since followed up with two singles, “Baba” and “REDMERCEDES”. He has yet to put out his debut album.

Dae Dae

Dae Dae hit single “What U Mean” became so popular 2016 that it become the top song discovered on Shazam from people trying to figure the name of the song and who made it. He started out as high school dropout doing concrete and flooring work. Saving money to record in local studios and going to open mics he met his manager was signed to known producer Nitti’s record label. He’s since released “Spend It”, the follow up to “What U Mean”.

Khalid’s album American Teen was released only a couple of months ago, but his single “Location” is already a Platinum selling hit. The El Paso, TX resident grew up as an Army brat, moving state-to-state and sometimes out of the country. In high school, he studied musical theater and now he’s a 19-year-old with one of the most popular songs in the United States. His success came when he started making music and posting it online. He linked up with producers Syk Sense, Tunji Ige, and Smash David who all worked on the breakout hit “Location”. Khalid has since followed up with a few songs, but none of them have had the same impact as his first single, which is still riding a wave a popularity.

Kyle

Kyle has been putting out music since 2013. He’s collaborated with notable artists like Chance the Rapper and Kehlani and has released two studio albums. His single “iSpy” featuring Lil Yatchy is his most popular and successful song. It’s his breakout hit, which peaked at number 30 on the Billboard Top 100 charts at the end of last year.

Lil Uzi Vert

Philadelphia-based rapper Lil Uzi Vert is mostly known for his role in the Migo’s hit single “Bad and Boujee”. Last year he released his debut single “Money Longer” along with a couple mixtapes. Recently he dropped his latest single XO Tour Llif3 which has already gone Platinum and is his highest charting solo hit. He was originally discovered by popular DJ/producer Don Cannon who teamed up with DJ Drama to get Uzi a deal at Atlantic Records.



Lil Yachty

Not too long ago, Lil Yatchy was a high school kid who graduated and moved to New York City. Then he went to college in Alabama only to drop out after two months. In between graduating high school and dropping out of college, he was working on his music. H “One Night” became very popular on SondCloud and eventually went Platinum after peaking at number 49 on the Billboard Bot 100 charts. Since then, he’s been working with Migos, Young Thug, Mike Will Made It, and Carly Rae Jepsen.

PnBRock

PnBRock became popular locked up in prison. He recorded his debut mixtape Real N*gga Bangaz while serving a 33-month sentence for a couple of charges including robbery. He actually didn’t know how popular his music until he started receiving letters in prison. Now he’s out and signed to Atlantic Records. Last year he released his debut album GTTM: Goin Thru the Motions and this year two of his songs were placed on The Fate of the Furious: The Album for the new Fast & Furious film. His latest currently he’s featured on YFN Lucci’s “Everyday We Lit” which is currently one of the most popular songs in the country.

YFN Lucci

Last year, Atlanta rapper YFN Lucci dropped the anthem to the Summer “Key to the Streets”. At the end of last year, he released “Everyday We Lit” which has become the anthem for 2017. The 26-year-old has been making music since 2014. I was Atlanta rapper Johnny Cinco who encouraged him to take his talents serious and start putting out his own music. He first released his mixtape Wish Me Well. His follow-up mixtape Wish Me Well 2 containted “Key to the Streets” which has gotten him the mainstream success that he was missing.
