DC does not seem to be wasting anytime in forming its own Cinematic Universe to rival that of Marvel’s. The comics company already has Batman Vs. Superman and Suicide Squad debuting next year and in the years after that movies Wonder Woman and Justice League movies alongside standalone films for Batman, Superman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Captain Marvel (Shazam). If that is not enough superhero action for you then you will enjoy this latest rumor. Apparently, the second phase of the DC Cinematic Universe will feature a few new faces!
When it comes to a Justice League line up there is just one rule–the DC Trinity must stand. The DC Trinity consists of DC Comics’ three main heroes, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Any other heroes you add to that line up is virtually irrelevant. Marvel has taken its own stance with its trinity of Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. However, if we are going to bring on some second string heroes we might as well include Black Canary, Green Arrow, The Martian Manhunter, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and The Atom! All of these heroes are pretty bad ass and recurring members of the League. Their addition is shrouded in mystery however, as it is rumored they will form the primary team of Leaguers or will be a splinter team to oppose them. This matches the current modus operandi of the League in the comics with one team being independent and the other being formed by the U.S. Goverment.
Fans are familiar with Green Arrow, Black Canary, and The Atom thanks to The CW’s Arrow. The Hawks may take some getting use to for fans who may not know of their star-crossed love story or reincarnations. A standalone film for them might be a smart move. The Martian, however, was the heart of The Justice League for years. DC is looking really good right now Marvel! Look out!
