Podcasts are gaining momentum in terms of popularity right now and I don’t know about you, but I’m hooked. There is, quite literally, something for everybody and every interest. Check out what’s in constant rotation on my Podcast Playlist.
1. The Read
Okay, The Read,
hosted by bffs Kid Fury and Crissle West, is seemingly at the top of everyone’s podcast playlist. It’s just so good. The show’s got four segments. It opens with Black Excellence, where Kid Fury chooses people to highlight in the black community who are exemplifying greatness. Followed by
Sick, Sad World…or whatever title Fury chooses for the segment on any given week: Kid Fury runs down a list of what is trending at the top of the blogs (shout out to 4itsrox) as he and Crissle engage in hilarious banter about each topic. Then there’s Listener Letters, which is pretty self explanatory.
And finally, the namesake segment, The Read where the duo takes turns firing off about whatever’s pissed them off during the week.
2. The Friendzone
Sibling to The Read, The Friendzone is hosted by real life friends Hey Assante, Dustin Ross, and Hey Fran Hey. The show always opens with a vibey freestyle by the fellas before transitioning into twitter recaps of the previous episode. The main topic is then introduced and discussed, followed by wellness, music, and tv segments–in that order. The show wraps up by highlighting a black business of the week, and Hey Assante gently reminds you to “stay black and protect your magic”.
3. Behind The Brilliance
Behind the Brilliance is hosted by Lisa Nicole Bell, an entrepreneur producer/director and multimedia personality. Lisa shares pearls of wisdom on business topics and conducts interviews with entrepreneurs and industry leaders at the top of their game.
4. Myleik Teele’s Podcast
Myleik Teele is the founder and CEO of the exclusive natural hair subscription box, Curl Box. On her podcast, Myleik is an open book about topics concerning business, dating, and networking. She offers insight gained from personal experience, and conducts interviews with entrepreneurs who follow suit.
5. The Joe Budden Podcast
Listening to the Joe Budden Podcast, fomerly titled I’ll Name This Podcast Later, is essentially listening to three real life friends, each with ties to the hip hop industry, debate about things that your stereotypical group of guys would debate about; music, women, and sports. Insert a few hot takes, some hilarious one liners, and a cool segment at the end featuring underrated music and you’ve got an hour of entertainment.
6. Color Full Lives
The Color Full Lives podcast might be my favorite, so it’s sad to say that it’s actually a limited edition. Statefarm tapped Angela Yee, Hey Fran Hey, and Tatiana King-Jones to do an eight episode series over the summer of 2016 all about all of the aspects that make up a full and vibrant life. The trio covers everything from travel tips, to financial advice, to dating, entrepreneurship, and more. There have been a couple of additional episodes that have popped up by popular demand, so fingers crossed for more.
7. The Casey Crew
The Casey Crew is another fav. The show is hosted by husband and wife duo, Dj Envy and Gia Casey. As a couple, they are as open as it gets when it comes to sharing the fruit of lessons learned from personal experience. They dish on topics about relationships, parenting, and sex…and listen, there is no filter.
These few favorites will get you by, but the well is not running dry anytime soon. There are so many great shows out there. Key people are sharing entertainment and a wealth of knowledge for free! Sweet deal.
