You’ve got to be living under a rock if you aren’t abreast of the entire situation involving NFL running back Ray Rice. Ray was cut from the Baltimore Ravens and banned indefinitely from the NFL for domestic abuse. The news of the incident is old, yet the video surfacing (courtesy of TMZ) shed more light on the situation, which caused his ultimate dismissal.
The video is definitely hard to watch. Ray and his fiancée at the time, Janay Palmer, are seen arguing outside of an elevator and there is some physical contact from her end. Once they boarded the elevator things took a turn for the worst. She approached him and he knocked her out…literally unconscious. The elevator stopped and he attempted to drag her lifeless body once someone else appeared. Yes, the surveillance is shocking. Watch it here.
Originally, Ray was suspended for two games when the league learned of this event. However, once the video went viral, the harsher punishment was enforced. Now the entire world has an opinion on the saga while a family is torn apart. Both parties finally spoke on the unfortunate situation.
Janay Rice defends her husband, their life and love on Instagram.
“I woke up this morning feeling like I had a horrible nightmare, feeling like I’m mourning the death of my closest friend. But to have to accept the fact that it’s reality is a nightmare in itself. No one knows the pain that the media and unwanted opinions from the public have caused my family. To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret everyday is a horrible thing. To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his ass off for all his life just to gain ratings is horrific. THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don’t you all get. If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happiness away, you’ve succeeded on so many levels. Just know we will continue to grow and show the world what real love is!”
Ray Rice speaks on being strong despite their world being turned upside down.
“I have to be strong for my wife…[Janay] is so strong. We are in good spirits…We have a lot of people praying for us and we’ll continue to support each other. I have to be there for [Janay] and my family right now and work through this.”
Here is where things get interesting; Joe Budden enters the state of affairs with rumors that Teyana Taylor may have been one of the issues the couple was arguing about.
The twitter exchange eventually brought up “Tae’s” name and Budden immediately made it known that the follower blew the whistle, not him. And like clockwork pictures and old tweets started surfacing.
This situation has turned beyond messy. I hope Teyana can clear herself because nothing good will come to her wbeing tied up in this nationwide catastrophe. The dates make you raise an eyebrow because though.
Moreover, this decision is met with skepticism. Do I agree with him being punished? Yes, because domestic violence is definitely wrong and you must accept the consequences for your actions. What I don’t agree with is the time of the punishment. Ray should have been fired when the incident originally surfaced because I’m finding it hard to believe the NFL saw the tape at the same time of the general public.
Before the video surfaced, Ray was receiving counseling and anger management for the domestic abuse shown. Once the video was released, it’s possible everyone had to cover themselves, including the NFL, hence his firing. It’s just an unfortunate situation all around. A family and future is forever ruined.
On another note, maybe Joe should be worried about his own domestic abuse allegations. He was just tweeting from jail after being arrested for them ABOUT A WEEK AGO. *Schmoney dance*
