As much as I am afraid to step into any Forever 21 store come this Labor Day weekend. Forever 21 has peaked my interest in their brand due to their collaboration with popular Graffiti-Artist, Alec Monopoly. If you are not familiar with Alec Monopoly you should be as he is the Andy Warhol of our generation. He uses famed cartoon characters like Richie Rich, Scrooge and Mr. Monopoly as his artistic muses. His art dives straight to the heart of many and that is the desire for wealth and fame.
While I am not sure if many tweens or even teens for that matter are as in touch with the capitalistic themes of Alec’s art. However, clearly on the surface his art is fun, bright and colorful. The now “vintage’ cartoon characters revamped and made cool for a younger generation makes him a hit.
The Alec Monoploy collaboration has something for both males and females. Standout pieces are the Yen, Euro and Dollar sign sweatshirt for men and the Richie Rich one piece for women. Although, in general you can’t go wrong in this collection. Every piece stands out and is a low-street way to rock F/W’15 Moschino inspired fashions.
