If you are not ready for a tear jerker with an amazing story line then PLEASE do not go to the movies to see “From the Rough”. This film is a true story based off the coaching career of Catana Starks, a swim and golf coach at Tennessee State University. She is faced with the adversity of an Athletic Director who does not believe in her ability as the coach of the male golf team. She changes each individual team member’s life and perspective of their situations by being a kind hearted and motivational coach. It seems that golf is the metaphor for her love lost and she wants to once again make love to the game by putting her all into it.
This story is very touching because it teaches of courage, will, true love and talent. Truly starting from the bottom as a team of misfits and “table scraps”, that becomes a strong team and united front. The team wins the prize and taking home the trophy. The highlight of the movie is when the once hard ass boss had to take a piece of humble pie. He apologized to for doubting Catana Starks talents and gift. Taraji P. Henson played the role of Catana Starks very gracefully and was filled with a cast of talent who amazed the big screen with their performance. Ms. Henson’s fellow cast mates are Letoya Luckett, Tom Felton, Michael Clarke Duncan (RIP), Justin Chon, Henry Simmons, and Robert Bailey. If you have not already please check this movie out and take your tissues with you!
