Samira Wiley, aka Poussey Washington in the Netflix smash series Orange Is the New Black has made the cover of Bello, and she’s KILLING it! Talk about stunning. The Julliard trained actress unleashes her inner model for Bello’s editorial ‘Wild Ride’. As fan favorite, Poussey Washington, Samira describes her sudden success by saying, “ the show got released on a Thursday and literally nothing was the same after that weekend”. To everyone’s surprise the show has, and continues to do exceptionally well. Upon filming the project, there was no frame of reference for such a feat. Orange Is the New Black, is the first of its kind being a Netflix show. Wiley describes the trepidation she and her colleagues felt getting into bed with such a risky endeavor, “there were no Netflix shows out when we started filming, and nobody knew what that meant exactly”. Wiley says she found solace in the risk because of the woman she was working under. ‘Weeds’ Creator Jeni Kohan has had much success in writing edgy and comedic series that fans cant get enough of.
Samira goes deeper into the show and her relationship with the cast saying they are very much like a family. The cast is described as being so close that they are even apart of one another’s lives off set. “During filming, it often seems like there’s no divide between work and play”. Despite the fun loving nature of the sets atmosphere the casts vision and focus on the shows more meaningful undertones never waivers.
“Sometimes, we can think of people in prison as other or separate from us and like we don’t know anyone like them, but Poussey, and the show in general, have helped me – and hopefully a lot of people – see that these women are human beings who’ve just made mistakes like everyone else.”
In the new season of OITNB, we go deeper into Poussey’s story and find out more about who she is, her loyalties and morals. Wiley is also set to hit the big screen this month in the Mafia thriller, ‘Rob the Mob’ with Michael Pitt and Andy Garcia. Playing an FBI Agent, Annie Bell, Samira describes her excitement of getting to tote a pistol on her hip. While she does not advocate gun violence she still thought it was “cool”.
Kontrol is here for it! We are so in love with Wiley’s Bello looks, and are obviously just as obsessed with ‘Orange Is The New Black’ as you are!
