That “Sweet Tooth” Can add Years to Your Face

Studies have shown that the overconsumption of sugar can lead to dull, sagging, and wrinkled skin. According to the average American sweet tooth has steadily increased every year since 1950. When shopping individuals look at calories rather than the amount of sugar most food contains adding to the number of people who unsuspectingly consume more than their fair amount of sugar.

Sugar has properties that impair the collagen and elastic protein fibers in the skin; which, as a result, makes skin more vulnerable to the UV rays of the sun. Mindless consumption of sugar can lead to premature aging and increased risk of certain chronic conditions; such as,  diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers.

Additionally, the consumption of excessive sugars can lead to other skin conditions including breakouts, dark spots, and blemishes. Sugar can be found in more than just sweet treats, processed frozen foods and greasy fast foods contain extremely high amounts of sugar.

For more radiant beautiful skin opt for friendlier sugars such as fruit and plant based options like pears, apples, kale, and grapes. Drink plenty of water and stay away from foods that have too many long unpronounceable words listed in its ingredients.
