“Design house TAORAY WANG, the eponymous brand of designer Wang Tao, debuted its Spring/ Summer 2017 collection on Monday, September 12, 2016 to a full house at Skylight Moynihan station as a part of New York Fashion Week.
This season’s collection, A Romance in Stripes is the latest addition to Wang Tao’s journey of a paradoxical world blending seemingly conflicting elements harmoniously. Bold lines of pinstripe fabrics, citations of masculine power suits or Wall Street ready-to-wear, elegantly balanced with the delicate, feminine flirtation of French lace cascading over a nude bodice. Taoism, taught for thousands of years, balances yin and yang, masculine and feminine. Each opposite complements and completes the other, as does the design of TAORAY WANG for Spring/ Summer 2017, declared that a woman can never be too bold, nor too beautiful. Wang Tao, is one of China’s most celebrated and accomplished designers with a diverse background having worked for design houses in Asia, Europe and North America and a pioneer of contemporary Chinese women’s fashion. Over the past two decades, Wang Tao has grown from an aspiring designer to one of Asia’s most successful female entrepreneurs, launching her namesake brand TAORAY WANG at New York Fashion Week in September 2014. This season TAORAY WANG launched its essential ideology on production and brand culture, Made in Shanghai. Inspired by Shanghai’s traditional 1920’s cheongsam, or mandarin gown, hand craftsmanship, incorporating Chinese traditional artistry and techniques including 100% silk Jacquard hand embroidered linings and trims into her chic collection she has created luxury from the inside out.
Currently the collection is sold throughout Europe, the USA and China; the brand will open its first US store and showroom in New York City’s Soho in 2017.
