“It ain’t over til the black lady sings!” and apparently she has! It has just been reported that Taye Diggs in irreplaceable! -I’m paraphrasing! As many have made it a internet game of guessing which star would be the next Hedwig, Broadway official has officially shut the game down; Hedwig will end it’s amazing Tony Award winning 17 month run on the Great White Way! September 13, 2015 is the last day to catch Hedwig before she packs up her wings and skirts and “Gets the hell out!” Diggs (the last and current actor to don the blonde wig) is closing the show after 22 previews and 506 performances. The show was a 2014 Broadway hit and Big Tony’s winner opening with Neil Patrick Harris in the lead role. Andrew Rannells, Michael C. Hall, the shows Co-Creator, John Cameron Mitchel, Darrin Criss, and finally Taye Diggs have all been apart of making Hedwig’s run a great once by performing in the title role!
All the male stars who have donned the Jean get-up has claimed that the role has changed and challenged them in ways they had never expected, and I suppose the same can be said for the viewers. Hedwig is a refreshing show about self acceptance and loving yourself: Flaws and all (no Beyoncé pun intended). True to the spirit of The Great White Way. Hedwig took the best of the best of Theatre vets and enchanted the audience with a smash cast and great music. Next Month another great show ends, but our weekly #TayeWatch will continue! have you seen Hedwig On Broadway? Are you going to? Slide into Broadway quick and watch Diggs dazzle and rock out, grunt groan, shake, dip, and give his all during Sugar Daddy, and the rest of the enchanting numbers from the 2014’s Tony Award winner for Best Broadway show, Hedwig and The Angry Inch!
